Human?
There are plenty of challenges to be faced when you choose estate agency as a career. Being ranked alongside bankers and politicians in surveys of the least-trusted professions is one of the biggest!
It's also a sad one, because to be good at their job an estate agent really needs to be a 'people person'. This means enjoying interacting with sellers, buyers, tenants and landlords, being a good listener and taking pride in helping people achieve their property dreams and desires.
Sadly the profession as a whole is often tainted by a lazy
stereotype, where people think homes sell themselves online and the actual work
of an estate agent is essentially just opening doors on viewings. Worse still,
some estate agents do little to prove this idea wrong...

However, that's only one very basic way that a human approach is important today. That's because those lazy agents we told you about are now using AI!
The human touch
Artificial Intelligence has been in the headlines recently,
with ChatGPT leading the field.
It's true that if given the right prompts it can produce text that makes perfect sense and is grammatically correct. It even tailors responses to detailed instructions, meaning you can get it to write everything from a formal letter or email reply to a description of a property.
The thing is, it gives everyone pretty much the same answer because it isn't actually 'intelligent'.
To be accurate, it's a set of algorithms based on 'machine learning', essentially something that 'reads' information from the internet and other sources and simply regurgitates it back in a form that it has been programmed to 'think' you want.
Now, if you are a lazy estate agent, the idea of getting ChatGPT to write your content might seem like a great idea. The problem is, every other bad rival will be doing it too!
That's where the human touch really comes into play and it's something that will become even more important in the coming months and years.
We are human
We write our own content, speak our own words and think our own thoughts. We listen to you and give help and advice where we can. We have years of experience and know our local areas because we live in them.
Even the best AI systems just take information from the internet and re-jig it over and over again. We live in the real world and that's why we are so good at our job.
One final thing... this is probably the first article you've ever read about 'AI' that doesn't end with the surprise reveal that it was written by ChatGPT! That's because when you deal with Maslen you can be sure we are real people just like you!
