A day in the life of a Property Negotiator

One of our negotiators gives you an insight into the role

The day starts at 8.30am in the office with a meeting held by the manager. Here we discuss any new properties that have come in, as well as updating each other on any developments with existing properties.

Some of the day will be spent in the office speaking to both clients (sellers) and applicants (potential buyers) either in person or on the telephone. This will be both reacting to calls that come in but also pro-actively contacting clients to update them and potential buyers to notify them of new properties that fit their requirements. The morning and Thursday evenings are a particularly good time to make these calls.

It’s your responsibility to fill your diary with appointments to show properties to prospective buyers. Viewings take place throughout the day and late on a Thursday. This is a crucial part of the sales process so it is really important that you create a rapport with the applicant and listen to their requirements and personal tastes. This makes it easier to match them to their ideal property and also provides valuable feedback for your client, the seller. You’ll have a car to help you get to and from viewings and will sometimes have a client or applicant as a passenger.

You will be responsible for putting offers forward and negotiating with the seller and buyer to achieve a sale at the best price, creating a win-win situation for all parties concerned. Once an offer is accepted by your client it will be up to you to liaise with solicitors, surveyors and financial advisors to see the sale through to completion. Although this is a balancing act it is hugely rewarding knowing you’ve helped people move home.

Requirements:

  • Drive and determination
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Full, clean manual driving license
  • Flexibility to work long hours
  • Sales experience - a benefit, but not essential
